With restrictions beginning to ease we have had some questions regarding the process of Dermal Filler treatments. 

What will the treatment feel like?

The range of products we use contains an anaesthetic agent making the procedure very comfortable for our patients. We also have other modalities to use to distract from the initial discomfort if needed. 

Is 1ml of filler a lot? 

1ml of dermal filler is equivalent to 1/5 of a teaspoon.  Not as scary as some may think. 1-2ml can give a natural yet very effective result.

How long does dermal filler last?

This depends on the product used, placement, experience of the injector, as well as patient factors including age, lifestyle, metabolism etc. Dermal filler in the lips usually last between 6-12 months as this area metabolises the products quicker. In other areas the product can last between 1-3 years. 

How many treatments will I need? 

This will depend on the desired result. Some areas like the tear troughs (under eye area) may be staged over multiple sessions to ensure natural results as well as to reduce the risk of adverse events. Remember, it is easier to add product then to remove it. Once the desired result is achieved, small amounts of product can be used for maintenance.

Is the treatment permanent? 

No. The product will be broken down by the body over time.  At Skindepth we use products that are made from hyaluronic acid. The advantage of this means that if for any reason the filler needs to be dissolved it can be. An enzymatic agent can be injected to break down the product.
