Anti-glycation complex

Glycation is a skin condition that affects many, with visible signs including deep-set lines and a cross-hatched appearance to the skin. Glycation is caused by the presence of excess glucose in the bloodstream. This triggers an internal reaction and causes sugar molecules to attach themselves to collagen and elastin fibres. The crystallisation of these molecules accelerates the degradation of collagen and results in the cross-linking of wrinkles.

In addition to sugar, high amounts of stress can also contribute to the glycation process. When we are in a state of stress, our brain releases our primary stress hormone, cortisol, which then triggers the release of stored glucose to give our bodies the energy it needs for a fight or flight situation. This response elevates blood sugar levels and contributes to the appearance of glycation.

Advanced Glycation End-Products (AGEs) are harmful compounds that form during the glycation process and contribute to oxidative stress, accelerating premature ageing. When they accumulate, AGEs in sun-exposed areas of the skin are another major contributor to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.

Our skin is under significant, daily assault from pollution and other toxic elements in the environment which it is not able to neutralise on its own. The generation of free radicals—harmful molecules resulting from pollution—presents as an increased risk of skin sensitivity, premature skin ageing, discolouration, dryness, dullness, and roughness.

The key to protecting our skin from glycation, AGEs and free radicals is the topical application of antioxidants found in The Vitality Collection. Glutathione is a naturally-occurring antioxidant, considered a master antioxidant because of its ability to multi-task various cellular functions. With age, the degradation of collagen and elastin are a primary concern. Glutathione can effectively preserve collagen, improve skin elasticity and prevent the formation of free radicals.

Superoxide Dismutase is another essential antioxidant found in human skin which can become depleted as we age. Superoxide Dismutase works in synergy with Glutathione to eliminate free radicals and protect cells from the Superoxide Radical. The Superoxide Radical can harm the energy source of our cells while causing our skin cells to stop working effectively.

In addition to Glutathione and Superoxide Dismutase, Co-Enzyme Q10 prevents modification from proteins, lipids, and DNA. Co-Enzyme Q10, also known as Ubiquinone, is an oil-soluble antioxidant crucial for cellular energy production and is found in almost every human cell. Co-Enzyme Q10, like many of our other defences, diminishes with age and under the influence of external factors.

These anti-glycation actives deployed throughout The Vitality Collection work collectively to future-proof the skin against the effects of premature ageing. For those experiencing signs of dullness, lacklustre skin or solar damage, The Vitality Collection will restore luminosity, brightness and vibrancy to the skin each day.
