Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)

06-08-2020

Niacinamide is Dr Rudd’s all time golden ingredient for almost any skin type.

Niacinamide has been around since the 1930s, but it has only gained popularity over the las few years due to its diverse and beneficial effects.

Niacinamide’s main properties for use in skin are:

  • Barrier Repair
  • Pigmentation
  • Photoprotection (does Not replace a sunscreen)
  • Acne
  • Rosacea

Niacinamide has its most interesting research in pigmentation treatment. Studies have shown niacinamide to lighten pigmentation by reducing the transfer of pigment made in melanocytes into skin cells (keratinocytes)

Niacinamide is well tolerated on almost all skin types and has a very good safety profile. It is chemically stable and compatible with many other active skin care ingredients. It can be used in conjunction with sunscreen, retinoids and alpha hydroxy acids. When combined with beta hydroxy acids such as salicylic acid it has a powerful effect on acne.

Niacinamide Serum $35 available on the website

There are many % niacinamides out there on the market ranging from 4-11%. Evidence suggested that 4% is as effective as 10% and so this is one case where higher is not necessarily better. Many products such as The Ordinary will display the %, but many other products contains Niacinamide in smaller % so you may need to read the labels in detail.

We have a variety of different niacinamide products at the Clinic to suit all skin types and budges :)
